When it comes to choosing a veterinary professional to care for your pets, horses, or farm animals, it is important to find a practice you feel will offer your animals the best care possible but who also consider the needs of their human clients too. Nowadays with more and more independent veterinary practices being bought out by larger corporate groups which are owned by private equity firms, it is nice to know that people living in the Didcot and Cholsey area can choose to go with independent veterinarians.

Larkmead Vets has five Small Animal practices including hospital facilities at their Didcot and Cholsey practices and local branch surgeries at Great Western Park, Benson, and Sutton Courtenay – with a new site in Wantage opening in 2024. Established in the 1960s, they have been providing quality veterinary care and advice to pet owners as well as the local farming and equine community from their specialist Large Animal practice in Cholsey.

The dedicated team go the extra mile whenever possible. As an independent practice, Larkmead Vets is owned and managed by their vets, who work on the ground, dealing with patients and their owners every day. Decisions they make for the practice are based on the needs of their patients, clients and staff which has enabled them to create a unique practice where they can cater for the specific needs of their local area.

With a large team of veterinary surgeons and nurses, collectively they can provide almost all the care your pet is likely to need during their lifetime without incurring expensive referral charges. Many of the Larkmead Vets have advanced skills, holding certificates obtained following years of extra study, in disciplines including emergency and critical care, internal medicine, feline medicine, oncology, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, to name a few. Their qualified nurses hold clinics for minor procedures and can provide advice on topics such as behaviour, confidence clinics, weight control, dental care, and management of long-term conditions.

Their Didcot Park Road branch also operates their own emergency out of hours service. Their staff are on site 24 hours a day caring for your pet with full access to a comprehensive range of diagnostic, monitoring, and laboratory equipment to give rapid results. The vets caring for your pet will have access to all of their medical records too.

They also offer in-person consultations 7 days a week, plus providing their own video consulting service which clients can use from the comfort of their own home.

To help you ensure that your pet remains as healthy as possible during their lifetime, Larkmead Vets also offer a Lifetime Care Club which eases the cost of preventative healthcare including vaccinations, flea and worming treatment and provides discounts on other products and services. Clients upgrading to their ‘gold’ membership also benefit from free consultations.

Operating from their Cholsey branch, Larkmead Vets also offers a range of specialist Large Animal veterinary services caring for livestock. They are one of the best recognised and most experienced pig practices in the UK. Their Equine team is headed up by Julia James, herself an experienced horse woman, so she too knows how important it is to have a veterinary surgeon who truly understands the needs of your horse whether it is a competition animal or a beloved pony.

Many of us have clothes hanging in our wardrobe that we no longer wear. That does not mean to say there is anything wrong with them but perhaps they no longer fit, your lifestyle has changed, and you no longer require business clothes to wear to work or you are simply bored with them. Now, thanks to an initiative organised by Sustainable Wantage and Grow Families, you can be part of a Clothes Swap taking place at Wantage Methodist Church in Newbury Street on Saturday 19th October.
