My Lovely Postcards

Postcards image 1

Charity fundraising initiatives so often involve physical activities or cake sales, so ‘My Lovely Postcards’ is going to appeal to all Oxfordshire artists who enjoy a challenge whilst raising money for charity.

The community art project ‘My Lovely Postcards’ was set up by Sobell House, alongside the Foreman family to raise funds for Beth’s Bursary Fund. The Fund was established in 2017 in memory of Beth Foreman who was cared for at Sobell House, with the aim of raising money to enable nurses to receive further training and education in palliative care. Thus far the Fund has raised an incredible £59,939 to further the nurses training. Beth was extremely thoughtful, caring and hugely supportive of other people, so her family felt that she would have been wholeheartedly behind the Fund.

So, what’s involved?

Budding and professional artists are invited to submit a postcard-sized piece of artwork measuring just 148mm x 105mm with a 2mm bleed all the way around. Artwork should be no thicker than 1.4mm and if necessary, you can back your artwork onto card no larger than 20cm x 15cms. Each submission will then be sold to members of the public through an art exhibition and auction. Submissions need to be received by Friday 31 March 2023 together with a completed submission form which can be downloaded from sobellhouse.org/get-involved/my-lovely-postcards. Artists are allowed to submit up to three pieces of artwork. Any submissions received after the closing date will not be included. Please send your submission, along with the submission form, both carefully packaged to My Lovely Postcards, Sobell House Hospice Charity, Churchill Hospital, Headington, Oxford OX3 7JE.

Sobell House is looking for a diverse range of drawn and painted artwork in all art styles and any medium. It is vital however that submissions are your own, original work, and follow the guidelines listed. It must also be suitable for all audiences and in keeping with the values of Sobell House Hospice Charity Ltd. No photographic or digital submissions are allowed.

Once donated, the artwork becomes the property of the Sobell House Hospice Charity Ltd although you, as the artist, will retain its copyright. Your donation grants the Charity permission to reproduce the artwork for promotional and publicity purposes and to publish accompanying information included within the submission form. Any unsold work will remain the property of the Charity.

All submissions will be photographed for an online auction which takes place from Thursday 18 to Sunday 28 May 2023. You will also be able to place a bid while visiting the Cloister Gallery at SJE, Iffley Road, Oxford OX4 1EH where the artwork will be displayed.

Further information relating to the auction and gallery exhibition will be posted on the Sobell House website sobellhouse.org/my-lovely-postcards
