The Old Crown Coaching Inn

divider

Located in Faringdon’s Market Place, The Old Crown Coaching Inn started life in the early 16th century as a coaching inn built on the site of an earlier hostelry and was re-fronted in Georgian times. Whilst keeping much of its heritage and history, The Old Crown has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment bringing the building, hotel rooms, bar & restaurant into the 21st century.

In June, Sebastiaan and his team announced the grand opening of a beautifully refurbished 80-seater restaurant named The Ballroom. Decorated to the highest standards with varnished wooden floors, amazing artwork on the walls and a mezzanine balcony overlooking the dining room below.

“We love hospitality,” said Sebastiaan. “From our décor, the music and ambience, to the food, choice of wines and the service to our customers, we look at the small details that make our guests enjoy a wonderful experience with us.”

Sebastiaan is looking to create “the best Inn in Oxfordshire”. “We want The Old Crown Coaching Inn and The Ballroom to be the destination for Faringdon and the surrounding areas.

We want to welcome food lovers, wine enthusiasts and especially the residents of and visitors to Faringdon. The Ballroom is available for weddings, private functions, parties, dining with friends and is especially suited to romantic dining as it has a lovely ambience that makes everyone feel welcome and creates a special place.”

The menu has an innovative twist on fine British dining with a wide variety of choices that would suit most palates – red meat eaters, chicken lovers, fish aficionados and vegetarians. Samuel Squires is the Head Chef, and he has worked in many top restaurants during his career including The Ritz in London. Samuel was awarded ‘Weetabix Chef of the year 20/21’ an award that puts him up there with some of the best chefs around.

Although within easy reach of The Cotswolds, Bath, Cheltenham, Oxford, and Swindon, you can find lots to discover in Faringdon itself – take a walk outside, stroll around the historic Market Place and explore Faringdon’s back streets, visit the 100ft Folly Tower and the 17th century Georgian-fronted Town Hall.

So, what are you waiting for? Get on down to 25 Market Place, Faringdon SN7 7HU and try out The Old Crown Coaching Inn or its new restaurant, The Ballroom.

The bar only is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 12 noon-10pm. The bar is also open with food is available on Wednesdays to Saturdays from 12 noon-2.30pm and 6pm-8.45pm and on Sundays for lunch from 12 noon-3pm. There is also a special Seniors’ Menu for lunch on Wednesdays-Fridays given those over 65 25% off on all food items with free on-site parking.

When I saw a post on Facebook promoting Scone Baking Demos with the chance to learn how to bake the most delicious scones possible, followed by the opportunity to indulge in a traditional English afternoon tea, I was intrigued and wanted to know more. What I discovered when I visit chezbeccy.com is that Beccy Hunt is a lady who has a passion for baking, and I decided it was time to have a chat with her to find out more.
