A former stationery cupboard at Witney Community Support Service (CSS) has been transformed into a new beauty room, offering adults with additional needs the chance to relax and unwind.
The facility officially opened at the Oxfordshire County Council-run service last week and has been named Glitz & Glam by the adults who draw on the service.
Councillor Tim Bearder, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “Hot off the heels of Ta Da! beauty salon in Banbury, Witney CSS has taken the initiative of opening their own therapy room, giving the adults who use the service access to treatments, which can make a real difference to their everyday wellbeing.”

Glitz & Glam was officially opened by Witney Town Mayor, Owen Collins, on Wednesday 6 March. Traditional treatments are offered including shampoos, sets and haircuts as well as male grooming options such as ear, nose and eyebrow trims.
The services are provided on a voluntary basis by support worker, Charlie Lonsdale, who is also a trained stylist. Clients pay a nominal fee to cover the costs of any products.
Selina Crozier, Team Leader at Witney CSS, said: “Our service provides vital support to adults with learning disabilities, older people, people with physical disabilities, and mental health needs, in our day centre setting. This project has been a real team effort over the last few months. Many of us take visiting a salon for granted and this new facility will hugely benefit many who are not able to benefit from this experience.”
The beauty room was developed following conversations with the adults who use the service and was renovated from funds raised by Witney Rotary Club at no cost to the council.
