Witney Vikings

Witney Vikings Youth FC has provided the opportunity for youngsters in the Witney area to enjoy safe, structured, and competitive football for fifty years.

The club currently runs 36 youth football teams from Under 5's to Under 18's, including 12 girls only teams. There are pathways to league football for young girls (Weetabix Wildcats) and young boys (Tiny Vikings).

There are 600 registered players (including 200 girls) and 85 club representatives. Most teams have at least 2 qualified coaches (Level 1) and there are a number of Level 2 and 3 coaches throughout the club. All club representatives undergo a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and every team is sponsored by a local company. Every club representative is a volunteer, giving up their time and energy to serve the community.

Despite being one of the largest clubs in Oxfordshire, Witney Vikings Youth FC has no home facility. Consequently, the club has developed a large number of successful partnerships with local schools and organisations. Teams are spread over many shared facilities and rotate around 2 or 3 home pitches throughout the season. Running the club is a team effort, it only works because coaches are flexible and parents are supportive, not to mention the unwavering dedication of its Chairman, Steve Bott, who has carried the club forward for the past 12+ years.

25 primary and secondary schools are represented at the club, every team is a unique blend of different children with different backgrounds. Many nationalities are represented, including children from Iran, Syria, and Ukraine.

Together with Oxfordshire FA, a new social session for women has been developed recently, through the Snickers Protein Just Play programme. The group trains on Sunday mornings, 9-10am at Witney ATP.

Witney Vikings Youth FC participates in three different leagues: Witney & District Youth Football League, Oxfordshire Youth Football League, and Oxfordshire Girls Football League. Over an average season, the club is involved in around 750 football matches across the county.

The club works closely with Oxfordshire FA to develop the game and strives to achieve the highest standards, holding FA Charter Standard club accreditation since 19th December 2006.

Witney Vikings Youth FC is proud to be family-friendly, inclusive and welcomes anyone wanting to enjoy the beautiful game.

Experienced Coaches have said that the 13- 15 year old teams often struggle as the boys mature. Some have a change of heart and move in a different direction, some become passionate about the game. Some parents bring their lads along to try and give them a focus, a physical outlet or to give them a direction in which to find themselves. Our team has struggled with these challenges and as Coaches we have deliberately sought to develop the team with a focus on the RFU core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship (TREDS).
