Oxfordshire families are being invited to step into the countryside this spring for the return of the much-loved Easter Adventure Trail at High Lodge Farm, near Abingdon.
Set in beautiful woodland on a 400 acre working farm, the action-packed outdoor trail follows the story of Eddie the Egg, a curious little egg who decides he wants an adventure instead of staying safely in his egg box. As Eddie rolls into the woods, children will meet a whole cast of eggy characters along the way including Dippy Egg and Soldier, Sunny and Scramble each busy with their own important springtime jobs.
Young explorers can pick up an activity sheet and follow the 1.2km woodland trail, spotting colourful artwork, completing challenges and collecting letters to solve the Easter anagram before claiming their well-earned chocolate treat at the end.
Once the trail is complete, families can enjoy the Play Patch, including straw bale climbing, a sandpit, farm tractor and giant garden games. The farm’s popular barrel train ride will also be back, whizzing children and their parents around the farm for £3 per person.
High Lodge Farm is run by four Oxfordshire sisters whose family has been farming in the area for over 100 years. Their seasonal events, which include the Big Bale Play in May half-term and the Spooky Trail and Pumpkin Patch in October, have become a favourite with local families looking for simple outdoor adventures and a chance for children to connect with nature.
Emily Allen, who runs High Lodge Farm with her sisters Lucy, Katy and Jess, said: “Our Easter Trail is one of our favourite events to create on the farm. Spring is such a lovely time here because the woods are coming back to life and it’s the perfect season for families to get outside and explore. It’s a completely different feel to our Halloween Trail in October; Easter is all about fresh air, adventure and children enjoying the woodland.
“This year we’ve loved bringing our eggy characters to life, including Vincent Van Yolk and Buzzby the Bumble Egg. Along the way there’s lots for children to discover and play on too – our small visitors love racing through the tyre steps, swinging on the rope swings, balancing along the giant logs, trying out the striding stilts and crawling through the giant tunnel in the woods.
Seeing families having fun together outdoors is exactly why we started these events, and Easter on the farm always feels really special.”
The woodland trail opens on March 28th for 10 days only. It takes around 45 minutes to complete, and promises to be a memorable spring day out for toddlers, primary school children and their grown-ups alike. Tickets cost £6.50 for adults and £8.95 for children over 1. SEND sessions are also available.
Refreshments on offer include Oxfordshire burgers and hot dogs, Jason’s sourdough toasties as well as barista-made hot drinks, cakes, bakes, flapjacks and cookies.
