If you live in Abingdon or local surrounding area and would like to improve your photographic skills, the Abingdon Camera Club has its new 2025/26 season starting on the 4 September running through to the end of May 2026. The long established Club welcomes new members of all skill levels from beginners to experienced photographers, providing a range of opportunities to develop your skills and experience. Membership will give you the opportunity to take part in print and digital image competitions, listen to external speakers sharing their specialist photographic knowledge, watch member presentations, take part in photo challenges, activity evenings and much more.
To become a member of the Abingdon Camera Club, the 2025-26 season fee is £80 or £5 per meeting for non-members. There are also discounted rates for full-time students. Meetings are also held via Zoom so on-line members can be part of the group for a nominal payment per session as well as the ability to take part in the Digital Image competitions. Meetings are held on Thursday evenings at 8pm until 10pm from September to May, in All Saints’ Methodist Church Hall, Dorchester Crescent (off Appleford Drive), Abingdon. Members of the Abingdon Camera Club range from some long experienced photographers to near beginners. However, they all have one aim and that is to improve at their hobby in an enjoyable, friendly atmosphere. Whatever your level of expertise, type of equipment, or particular photographic interest, even if you don’t even have to own a camera but just have an interest in photography, which is all you need to become a member.
Informative talks are held on subjects such as how to use Lightroom, using textures in photography, taking still life, portraits and street photography – all requiring different techniques and interpretations. Members also share their expertise with the group. Various visits to locations around Oxfordshire are also organised where you will be able to learn additional skills.
Various photography challenges are set for members to participate in from taking images of street photography, woodland, landscapes etc. Members can also compete with one another in the Internal League Competitions as well as competing against other clubs from as far afield as Bolton and Eymet in France. The ‘Intimate Landscape’ competition brought entries from 10 other photography clubs across the South East of England.
The Abingdon Camera Club took part in Oxfordshire Artweeks in May with a free photo-walk and pop-up exhibition held in Abingdon’s Market Square - the club planning to take part again in 2026. In October, an exhibition showcasing members images will be held at the 35 Oak Street Cafe - details will appear on the website.
Joining a club is a great way to meet other people who share a common interest, enabling you also to make new friends.
