When members of the popular local performing choir, Wantage Sings (formerly known as Wantage Stage Musical) get together, they not only bring joy to their audiences with their singing, but they all have much fun rehearsing and performing. The choir is highly active in the local area, hosting regular rehearsal sessions and themed concerts with a live band accompanying the choir.
They rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm at the Wantage Methodist Hall (OX12 8DA) and put on performances at venues such as Steventon Village Hall and Old Mill Hall in Grove.
The choir selects songs to be performed around a chosen theme such as ‘Songs from the Bands’ which they performed at their June concerts. Songs from the ‘Songs from the Bands’ included an eclectic mix from Viva la Vida by Coldplay, Creep by Radiohead, a Tribute to Bon Jovi (Medley) and many more.
On Friday 4th December, Wantage Sings will be part of the Dickensian evening, held in the heart of Wantage. Their performance will be at 5.30pm.
On the 9th December, Wantage Sings will be performing at a friends and family concert at the Wantage Methodist Hall and on the 9th and 10th July 2027 the members celebrating ‘icons’ which will bring together some wonderful choral harmonies. This event will be published on their social media and website wantagesings.co.uk.
Whilst the whole choir sings their selected main songs together, in harmony parts, there are also opportunities for members to audition to sing solos, duets or mini group numbers. Members do not however need to be able to read sheet music only to be able to undertake a private vocal range check and sing back a few song lyrics with the choir director. This ensure that members can be directed to the right vocal part and you can keep pace with the vocal training which is provided. Alongside the singing, there is a great social side too. The choir offers a great balance of learning and performing not forgetting the fun to be had and the social side is something members all enjoy.
