If you have not been into the Carterton Library, located at 6 Alvescot Road, because you think that all libraries offer is a lending scheme for books, it is time for you to think again!
In fact, Carterton Library runs numerous activities and events throughout the year for children and adults. These include reading groups, talks, rhyme time for young children every other Tuesday morning during term time, and gadget help sessions on Monday afternoons. There are also children’s craft activities to bring out their creative talents.
The children’s’ Summer Reading Challenge for 2022 is linked to the theme of Gadgeteers. A partnership has been formed between the Reading Agency and the Science Museum Group. Designed to inspire children to get excited about reading, through science and innovation behind the world around us, featuring amazing books and activities to help discover how science is all around us. Look out for ‘robot’ events in the library through the summer; the children’s summer craft events will also have a Gadgeteers theme.
Libraries such as Carterton’s also offer space for community events including Autism Family Support Oxfordshire Coffee Mornings, Age UK events and the Carterton Community Hub. If you follow Carterton Library’s Facebook page, @LibraryCarterton, you will be able to see the full range of activities and events.
The large display windows by the entrance to the library are also available for anyone to use to promote local groups, clubs, associations, and community projects.
The only way to see what is on offer is to go along and see for yourself. If you would like to pop in, the library is open Monday and Thursday 9.30 am to 5.00pm, Tuesday 9.30am to 7.00pm, Friday 10.00am to 7.00pm and Saturday mornings 9.30 am to 1.00pm.
