If you are looking for some truly original Christmas gifts for your family and friends, a visit to the new Filkins Craft Show on the 26 November 2022 is a must. Although this is the first time the show has been run, organisers have brought together an impressive array of exhibitors. The event, which runs from 10am until 4pm will be held at the Filkins Village Hall, close to the Five Alls Public House.
Although the size of the hall limits the number of tables exhibitors can hire, amongst the items visitors will be able to purchase are decorative pyrography from Wood Tattoos, hand drawings executed by Betty and Joanne, crochet and knitted items ranging from shawls to jumpers created by AllByMeself and hand decorated items made by Crafty Boaters. For people with a sweet tooth, you can indulge yourself with handmade chocolates made by POD Experience. Other stalls offer fabric bags, gnomes, teddies, and hand-painted pictures on wood.
And when the shopping is done, there will be tea and cake served on the day. All the profits from the event will go towards the Swinford Museum in the village. This is one of Oxfordshire’s oldest, small rural museums and is housed in a 17th-century cottage. The Museum is home to a fine collection of local domestic, agricultural, trade and craft tools, providing a unique picture of what living in a bygone rural community was like. The Museum dates back to the 1930’s when it was originally set up by George Swinford, who it is named after, with the help of Sir Stafford Cripps, a local statesman and benefactor.
