The British grown flower industry is seeing a great revival in locally grown cut flowers. I am one of almost 1000 members of Flowers from the Farm a growing national network of flower growers, aiming to get more seasonal British blooms back into vases across the country.
All flower farms are different and all unique which is part of the beauty of them, we can all choose which flowers we want to grow and sell, the seasonal flowers you buy are truly artisan.
Here at Friesland Farm in Shilton on the Hen ‘n’ Chick Lane I grow a mixture of perennial, annual and biennial flowers as well as herbs which often surprises customers. If conditioned well, herbs have just a good a vase life as flowers and foliage and add an extra dimension to bouquets not to mention fragrance. All grown without pesticides, herbicides or weed killers so you can be sure they are safe to sink your nose into for a sniff.
I do flowers for all budgets from jam jars to gift bouquets, the flowers I put together have a beautiful natural garden gathered look with plenty of movement, texture, colour, and fragrance. Everything I create has the environment as a forethought, the materials I use are compostable including funeral flowers.
You can follow me on Facebook or Instagram and see what I am doing, what flowers are available and what workshops I am running.
The next workshop is a hand tied bouquet workshop on Friday 28 July 7-9pm £50pp
