If you live in Carterton or the local area, and you are looking for different ways to make new friends locally, you may like to consider joining the Trefoil Guild. The Carterton branch meets every third Wednesday of the month at the WI Hall (opposite the ASDA garage) from 7.45pm until 9.15pm.

So, what is the Trefoil Guild?

The Trefoil Guild was established as a branch of Girl Guiding back in 1952; however, you do not have had to have been involved in the Guiding movement to join. With over 1,100 Trefoil Guilds across the UK, more than 18,000 members meet regularly. Members agree to support the Guiding ethos, which includes the promise to help other people. Many members pass on their skills and knowledge to local Guiding units, which includes helping with Rainbow and Brownies’ activities to preparing older girls for a camping adventure. Although some members are unit leaders or helpers in Guiding units, this is certainly not a requirement to be a Trefoil member. It is also not all about the girls either as the organisation is open to both men and women; you just have to be aged 18 and over to be part of a community of people who love to travel, explore, and help serve their local communities and interact with Guiding and Scouting across Oxfordshire and the UK.

Members have the chance to try something new, take on exciting personal challenges and escape from the daily routine, whilst meeting new people and making friends.

One local Carterton project which grew out of a Trefoil Guild challenge was for the Carterton Trefoil Guild to work in partnership with Carterton Town Council and West Oxfordshire District Council to create a small sensory garden in the Market Square. Many Guild activities result in incredibly positive benefits for the local community.

New members are made to feel very welcome so please do come along to our meeting and say “hello” and enjoy a chat, a cup of tea and biscuits, and see how you can start having fun.

If you are not able to come along to a meeting, you can still become a member of the Trefoil Guild. The organisation’s group Facebook page is secure, enabling members to be in contact with one another, make new friends and receive information on Trefoil Guild news, what is happening and events.

To find out more please contact or visit their website, trefoilguild.co.uk.
