If you live in or around Wantage you do not have to rely on Royal Mail to deliver your local Christmas cards as the Wantage & Grove Scouts will be holding their popular Scout Post again this year.
The service starts from 10am on Saturday 29 November with the last collection at 5pm on the 20 December. Deliveries will start from Sunday 14th December and last delivery will be on Wednesday 24th December.
You will find special Scout Post Boxes around the area located in Charlton Post Office (Barnards Way), Campbells Opticians, Charlton Garden Centre, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Wantage Health Centre, Smiths DIY Grove and Co-op Grove. Cards delivery remain at 40p per card with deliveries made to Wantage, Grove, Ardington, Childrey, Denchworth, East Challow, East Hanney, East Hendred, Ginge, Goosey, Letcombe Bassett, Letcombe Regis, Lockinge, West Challow, West Hanney, West Hendred.
The Scout Post Boxes have had a revamp too so look out for the new design!
The fundraising initiative was introduced in 1991/92, and the post boxes were created by Chris James (AKA Skip, 1st Grove Seagulls leader). Currently the Grove Scout Group has over 170 members and Wantage Scout Group has over 200 members. A large proportion of them are involved in either delivering or sorting the post and last year they delivered around 6,000 cards and raised over £2,400 which went to Wantage and Grove Scout Groups.
The local Scout groups involved are most grateful for the continued support of the local companies who allow them to position the post boxes on their premises.
