As the year comes to a close and we start to look forward to welcoming in 2024, it is important we all take some time to reflect on the year, remembering the challenges we have overcome, whilst also looking back on some of the positive memories from this last year.

In May, we all gathered to witness the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, an extraordinary national day, a first for many, full of history and timeless spectacle. From the ancient ceremony of His Majesty’s coronation - to the beautiful precision and scale of the military processions, we saw a display like no other.

For many the Coronation was also a chance to spend time with family, friends and attend community celebrations. I thoroughly enjoyed being out and about in West Oxfordshire over the coronation weekend and participating in community celebrations in: Witney, Carterton, Ducklington & Bladon, as well as taking participating in the ‘Big Help Out’ on the Monday, volunteering at a litter pick in Brize Norton.

For residents in Witney, I have been continuing my local campaigns; to hold OCC to account on the closure of the High Street, ensuring the shop and local centre for the residents of Windrush Place are secured, whilst also continuing to reflect the strength of feeling local people have shared over the proposals for a Botley West Solar Farm through my Parliamentary Petition.

Back up in Westminster I was recently honoured to have been appointed by His Majesty the King, as Solicitor General for England and Wales.

In this new role, I look forward to working with the Attorney General, Government lawyers, and the Civil Service to play my part in making the law and politics work together at the heart of the UK Constitution.

Finally, it’s been an incredibly busy year, and I hope that during the festive period you are all able to get some time to reflect on the year and look forward to welcoming in 2024.

I want to wish everyone in Witney a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Are you aware that cancer kills more teenagers and young adults in the UK than any other disease? Every day at least seven young people hear the words “you have cancer” which turns their world upside down. Raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust to enable them to provide specialist care and support, both physical and emotional, has never been so important. The charity urgently needs your help.
