Located at the John Radcliffe Hospital, SSNAP (Support for Sick Newborn and their Parents) has been providing support to parents with premature and sick babies since 1982. Initially formed by
Abingdon Foodbank has been in operation since 2009, helping local people facing hardship and food poverty. Today, as part of the Trussell Trust network and in partnership with Christ Church Abingdon and Abingdon Vineyard Church, the foodbank operates across two sites in the north and south of the town. In 2023, they distributed 2791 emergency food parcels to local people in crisis, feeding 4,162 adults and 2,811 children.
On 15th June 2024 OPACEC is taking that challenge into the Market Place with a collaboration including Evoke Belonging, Makespace, Abingdon Events Partnership and supported by the Abingdon Town Council. The One Planet Living Festival will provide an opportunity to the 36,000 people living in Abingdon on Thames (and surrounding towns and villages) to become involved in exploring how we can live peaceably and flourish as we reduce consumption and emissions to live as though we only have one planet.
