Christmas Light Switch on and Lantern Parade

Friday 1 December

Those wishing to take part in the lantern parade should meet at Carterton Community College at 5.15pm and be ready to leave at approximately 5.30pm. The parade will travel down the Burford Road, into the Alvescot Road and congregate in the Town Square ready for the lights to be switched on at 6.00pm.

Make a Lantern

18 November 10am-2pm, and Saturday 25 November 10am-2pm

If you would like to make a lantern for the parade, we will be running two free lantern making workshops. They will take place on Saturday 18 November 10am-2pm at Carterton Family Centre and Saturday 25 November 10am-2pm at the Community Centre, Shilton Park.

We would like to encourage families to take their lanterns home, but if this is not possible St John’s Church have offered to take any unwanted lanterns and display them over Christmas. They will then be taken apart and the willow and lights will be recycled for the following year. The Church will be open between 6-8pm offering refreshments, children’s craft activity, and lantern drop off point.

We will have lots of attractions including stalls, fun fair rides, live music, and Santa’s Grotto. In September we ran an online questionnaire and asked residents what activity would they most like to see at our Christmas event, and they voted overwhelmingly for a couple of live reindeer. As a result, this year, we will be joined by the Cotswold Reindeer Herd who say, “our handlers are trained to offer a safe, friendly and educational encounter.” As it gets very busy, we will be placing the reindeer in a quieter location. They will be available to meet between 6pm-8pm.

Christmas Craft Fayre at St John’s Church

Saturday 2 December 10.00am-1.00pm

There will be a Christmas Craft Fayre at St John’s Church including jewellery, cards, gifts, wreaths, decorations, painted glass, chutneys, jams, candles, paintings and more. There will be refreshments, children's activities, bouncy castle, and the chance to meet Mother Christmas.

For up-to-date information about the events please contact the Town Hall or follow the Facebook page.
