As you may already be aware, Trindledown Farm on the Wantage Road at Great Shefford is home to the National Animal Welfare Trust’s rescue and rehoming centre, specialising in the care of elderly animals. It has been a busy time recently at the centre, especially during the month of August.
Thanks to the daring efforts of a wonderful supporter, Sunday 6 August saw Jane jump from 13,500 feet in the air as part of a skydive she was being sponsored for to raise funds for a renovation project at the centre. Having been gifted the skydive as her 50th birthday present, Jane wanted to do something different and contribute to NAWT Berkshire’s care of animals. Setting herself a fundraising target of £800, she set to work gathering sponsorship and prepared herself for a truly memorable ‘big day birthday event!’ Not only did she complete the fantastic jump, but Jane also smashed her target and succeeded in raising an impressive £1,200. Truly remarkable and an incredible achievement.
“We are pleased to say this money will be used towards renovating our onsite grooming room,” Molly Hall, Fundraising Officer explains. “All equipment will get a much-needed update. We are working out different options as to which will be most beneficial to our own animals and the public, whether this be we end up renting the space out to an external groomer or we create a dog wash station that the public could use in opening hours. We are very excited to redecorate the space and hope to begin works soon.”
The following week everyone at the centre was busy preparing for the first Open Day to be held in four years. With an array of stallholders, live music, animal interactions, fun dog show, games and activities throughout the day, great fun was had by everyone taking part and visiting. It was a fantastic day with over 800 people in attendance and NAWT are pleased to say that they raised the most they have ever done at such an event with a grand total of £5,439.98. An unbelievable amount, surpassing their wildest expectations.
There are some fun events coming up for the remainder of the year. The NAWT’s online auctions are ever popular with the summer auction running until mid-September. For the October half term, you can take part in some spooktacular fun events for all the family to get involved in. You can also get involved with the NAWT’s animal passports with a special prize at the end for all completed booklets. A visit to Trindledown Farm provides a fun, affordable activity to keep both children and adults alike entertained and learning about the different animals at the centre.
