11-12 November 2023
Armistice Day commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the treaty in 1918 that declared the First World War to be over. It was renamed Remembrance Day after World War Two to commemorate those who were killed in both World Wars. The loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on Remembrance Day. We will remember them.
This year, with 11 November falling on a Saturday, there will be a small service at the War Memorial on the Town Square at 11am and you are invited to attend.
On Sunday 12 November we will be commemorating Remembrance Day starting at 09.20 when the Mayor/Councillors/Guests/Mace Bearer will leave the Town Hall to walk to St John’s Church.
The Church Service commences with the mayor’s procession at 09.45. Please be aware that there will be a road closure commencing at 10.15.
The Church Service ends at 10.40 and the mayor’s procession and parading organisations will form up outside the church marching to the Town Hall reforming at the War Memorial for 10.50. The parade will be joined by the RAF Guard.
Prayers will be led by the Clergy at 10.47 and the last post will play followed by two minutes of silence at 11.00. The Reveille will sound with the raising of colours and will be followed by the Kohima Prayer.
Wreath laying will take place from 11.03 and names and organizations will be read out in order.
After the wreath laying the Mayor, Deputy Lieutenant, Station Commander, and Mace Bearer will make their way to the saluting dais and the parade will reform on Alvescot Road to march past the saluting dais. The parade will then make its way to the Car Park to the rear of The Original Factory Shop for thanks from the Mayor, Deputy Lieutenant, and Station Commander. The road closure will end at 11.30.
